Evaluate a submission

To begin, click on a submission which is currently under review. The Internal tab of this page is where your editors will spend 99% of their time. It contains everything they need — all in one centralized location.

  1. You’ll see that the author information has disappeared: the materials are now anonymized.

  2. You have the abstract, manuscript, and supplemental materials.

  3. There is a countdown indicating how much time you have left to complete the review (for this sample article, it’s 1 month and 3 weeks).

  4. You’ll see the rubric that you can update within your profile. The editors can comment specifically on how the article meets (or fails to meet) the specifications of your journal’s rubric. NOTE that all of this is internal and is just to help you with your deliberations and review.

Collaborate with editors

On this same page, you can scroll down to interact with a Slack-type feature so that your editors can comment on the article and ask questions of each other. In other words, no need for email! All article discussions and deliberations can take place within Claudius Scholar.

View offers from other journals

If you scroll to the bottom of this same page, you can see any offers that have been made to the submission you’re currently reviewing. For example, this Sample Article has received an offer from the Columbia Law Review, and there is 1 week and 6 days remaining on that offer.

Submit an evaluation

Once you have completed your deliberations and are ready to communicate your decision to the author(s), go to the “External” tab and fill out the evaluation form.
